What is Covid-19
Coronavirus, or SARS-CoV-2, is an emerging pathogen within the United States caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The outbreak started in Wuhan, Hubei province, China, in December 2019. The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the outbreak to be a Public Health Emergency of International Concern on 30 January 2020 and recognized it as a pandemic on 11 March 2020.
The virus is mainly spread during close contact and by small droplets produced when those infected cough, sneeze or talk. These droplets may also be produced during breathing; however, they rapidly fall to the ground or surfaces and are not generally spread through the air over large distances. People may also become infected by touching a contaminated surface and then their face. This is due to the virus being able to survive on surfaces for up to 72 hours. The virus is most contagious during the first three days after the onset of symptoms, although spread may be possible before symptoms appear and in later stages of the disease.
The number of cases throughout the Country continues to rise. Scientists are researching better ways to treat and eradicate the virus and the CDC and EPA are regularly updating recommended procedures. We are constantly updating our protocols based on the latest information from these agencies to keep our employees and customers safe. We have also incorporated cutting edge protocols and recommendations. Our team has been working to provide our clients with decontamination and preventive disinfection services at their commercial facilities. We have helped many organizations reduce their risk and provide reassurance to their staff through practical planning, protocols, and preventive disinfection services. We have also helped many customers decontaminate their facility and quickly return to “business as usual” after a suspected or confirmed case of contamination.
If someone has been infected, or believed to have come in contact with someone who was infected, in your commercial property, the safest course of action is to consider the entire building contaminated and a potential risk to current occupants. It is necessary to find a qualified decontamination company with trained personnel experienced in biological decontamination protocols.
We have developed our protocols based on interim guidance published by the CDC, OSHA, and EPA specific to SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19. We work with experienced Industrial Hygienists and medical professionals consistently reviewing our operating procedures for compliance. Our strategy is to provide practical solutions while maintaining compliance with federal guidance. This ongoing process allows us to execute our mission of providing a smarter, safer, and more efficient recovery for businesses after a disaster.
Offsite and Onsite Surveys
The OSHA HAZWOPER guidelines for biological and chemical decontamination is our baseline for projects that are a threat to human health. The initial step is to collect as much information as possible about the scope and timeline of the project. In this step, we will ask some basic questions to help estimate the extent of contamination, type of facility, people involved, and other relevant information. After this offsite survey, you will be provided with a preliminary estimate and plan for decontamination.
After the initial contact, we will follow up with you or your representative to address any further questions or concerns. When you are ready to move forward, we will mobilize to your site for an on-site survey to prepare for decontamination.
The on-site survey begins after arrival and starts with verification of the information gathered over the phone. The survey includes establishing safety plans for initial entry into the building, sharing hazard communication plans, and addressing potential complications. The decontamination plan may then be adjusted for your unique project. We may recommend engaging an Industrial Hygienist for protocol review and clearance to further reduce risk. These initial critical steps will lay the groundwork for a successful project.
